What percentage of open source developers are funded? More
specifically, I'd like an estimate of how many open source developers
there are, and how many of those are paid to work on open source
technologies. I know, for example, that RedHat employs many open
source developers. Companies like IBM do, too.

Can you tighten up your question?  Define funded - salary? ownership?
