Who are the top three knee surgeons/specialists in the Atlanta GA
vicinity?  (What is their contact info and how do you judge their
skill level?)

I ask because a good friend of mine had knee surgery complications
(because of mistakes made by his team) and now needs to have his
surgery redone.

The type of surgery he had was knee replacement surgery.  The
complications were caused by lack of bone density (which the original
specialist didn't check for properly); because he didn't know better,
my friend put weight on his knees too early causing the healing to go
bad and now he needs to have his surgery re-done.

There is no way to quantify best.  The guy who does the most, may not
be the best.  The guy with the nicest office may not be the best.  The
guy that has a great bedside manner may not be the best.  You need
personal references, which are difficult to get.

I would call the professional sports teams, and university sports
offices and ask if they have an orthopedic consultant or some similar
term. (A sports writer at the local paper can probably tell you, too) 
Consider that a darn good personal reference, multi-million dollar
athletes can't afford mistakes.
