Question ID: 717554
I can't file a claim with the state of Va. for my late-father's
"unclaimed accts" untill I give them his old address that he had while
he lived in Va. No one in our family remembers it because it was so
long ago (in the 50's). Does anyone know how to get his "old address"
so I can file a claim?

Just a suggestion: Did he hold a Virginia driver's license back then?
If so, inquiring with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles may be
worth trying:

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 27412
Richmond, VA 23269

Just a couple of shots in the dark:
Did he own property? His address, even if he did not own where he
lived, would be recorded in the county recorder's files for the
property. You would most probably have to be able to identify the
parcel to access the file, since information that old won't be online.

Did he have a church affiliation?

What about an obituary in the local paper?

Both these would require someone to search on the spot.

Is it possible that anyone in the family has correspondence from that time?

Oh, perhaps the best place to look would be the county's or state's
files on death certificates.

If you don't know the date of death, but know that he had a social
security number, the date can be found here:

Good luck!

The DMV records only go back ten years. No, he did not own any property.

Here are sites for death records:
http://www.vitalrec.com/va.html
http://www.deathindexes.com/virginia/index.html

I don't know if the online information includes addresses, but the
original death certificate will.
