Howdy submergency-ga,

Would the following numbers help?

"Leather hide sizes vary and range from 38 to 70 square feet depending on
the area of the world they come from."
http://www.premierehts.com/sublevel.cfm?template=lounger&sub=Learn

"In Upholstery terms, the entire animal hide, averaging 45-55 square feet."
http://www.furniturefind.com/help/6_006_glossary.aspx

Small 20-25 [sq. ft.]; Medium 30-35 [sq. ft.] ... large 40-45 [sq. ft.].

"... a standard 6x8 ft cow hide rug consisting of 48 square feet ..."

Thank you eainbow-ga for your comments. I have the Guide to
Evaluating Slaughter Cattle. I hadn't seen the USHSLA Standards
document, which is interesting and relevent.

I am looking for the area of a standard hide, or preferably some way
of approximating the area of the resulting hide from the live weight
of an animal at slaughter.

Hi submergency,

I wasn't able to find the precise information you are looking for.
Hopefully another researcher will have better luck.
