Like many users, I've got many different keyboard and mouse
configurations for my laptop, depending on where I'm using it. At
home, I plug in the MS Wireless Desktop Elite combo. On the road, I
use the laptop's keyboard for typing, and either the touchpad or an MS
Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse for pointing.
Of course, each of these devices has a different feature set, its own
driver, and its own particular tweaking to make it work best. Problem
is, as far as I can tell, Windows doesn't bother to distinguish which
input device is connected/in use at the moment. So if I adjust the
speed on my touchpad, it also affects the tracking of both of my mice.
When the keyboard software (with quick-launch buttons) is installed,
the laptop-specific F-key controls are blocked.
Windows is able to keep track of multiple external drives, printers,
and other peripherals - isn't there any way to make it smart about
such basic input devices for mobile users? |
