How can I offer a vast selection of merchandise on my web site if I
collect the money for the order, but do not want to maintain inventory
or perform fulfillment? I can't just link to another site to collect
"credits" because I am collecting the money and order.

Drop ship by distributors? "Funnel" money and order to
merchandise/brick-and-mortar partners? Are there standard "interfaces"
for this? What works? What are the options? What are the pros, cons?
How do I maintain control and my brand?

I understand your question up until the mention of your "brand". Are
you trying to obtain generic products that you can label as being
produced by your company or do you just want to give the effect that
your company is the one who is sending the product to the customer?
