Hello,

Please help me out as I have been trying to do this for 48 hours!

I have my old computer, with Microsoft Outlook 2003. I got a new
laptop, with Outlook 2003. I want to get my outlook files, sent
items, and folders onto my outlook on my new lap top. I also want to
learn how to effectively do this so I can back up my outlook folders
in the future...

At any rate, on my old computer, in Outlook, I went to file -
import/export- export to a file - .pst - and then I saved it to my
desktop. I see the icon on my desktop now, it is red, orange, green
and blue - the microsoft office logo I believe.

At any rate, my goal now is to get that file to my lap top.

I bought a CDR disc, which has a user capacity of 700 MB. I tried to
copy the file onto the cd, but was told that "windows encountered a
problem when trying to copy this file".

note, i went to the properties of the file, and the size is 156 MB

At any rate, I then tried to zip it with winzip, and was told that
winzip "could not open for reading".

i then tried to email the file, from my gmail.com and yahoo.com
account, but the email would not send through GMAIL and would not
attached through Yahoo.

How do I get this .pst file from my desktop computer to my brand new lap top?

Thanks!

When you copy .pst files, verify that the Read-Only attribute is not
set on the .pst file. To verify this setting, right-click the .pst
file that you copied, and then click Properties. Make sure that the
Read-Only check box is not selected.
Then try to copy to a CD.

Its all depends on which version of Outlook , Windows you are using.
If u are using Windows XP.follow these steps.
1) Goto Tools - > Email-Accounts.
2) Select view or change existing email accounts and click Next
3) Select the account from the first list shown.
4) Select the 'Personal Folders' Option in the drop down of "Deliver
new email to following location:" and click "New outlook data file"
button.
5) Now u will get a small window showing Types of storage:
6) select 'Office outlook personal folders file(.pst)" option and
click on "OK" button
7) select the location in ur hard disk where the new file to be
created.(u can give ur own name also to this file) and press OK
button.
8)Now all the new mail will be pointed to the new file and not ur Inbox.
9) Now in the left pane u will see a name "Personal Folders" folder
and under this folder u will see all the sub folders like Deleted
Items,Drafts,Inbox,Outbox,Sent Items etc..
10) Now move all the mails which were there in ur old Inbox to this
new Perfonal Folders Inbox.
11) After moving all the mails, now check the size of the file which u
have created now.it should defenitely get increased.
12) Now u have got all the mails in a single file.
13) Now copy this file to ur laptop.
14) Follow the same steps from #1.
15) At the #7 select the file which u have copied to ur laptop.
16) now u can see all the mails in ur desktop in the Laptop.

let me know if this helps..

Bye
