I have been trying to install adobe reader 7.07, but I cannot because during the install phase, I'm asked to produce a disk for adobe reader 6.01 so it can uninstall it. No such disk exsits. I have tried to uninstall adobe reader 6.01 through Add/remove programs, and I have deleted the adobe folder from my "Program files" and am still unable to install 7.07. I have tried to reinstall 6.01, but it reacts the same way, asking for a disk. What it is really looking for is "Rdr60ENU.msi" which does not exist anywhere. I am running an Inspiron 9300 with 512 MB RAM 1.72 GHz Pentium, XP Media Center. Please help me. How will I install adobe reader 7.07? | |

eastofjordan... I very much appreciate your willingness to pay me for my efforts, even if they were not the ultimate solution for your problem. I'll repost the information here, for the sake of future readers. -------------------------------------------------------- You'll probably need to remove all entries for Adobe 6.01 from your registry. If you're not familiar with modifying the registry, there is a free program called CCleaner which can and does scan your registry for remnants of deleted programs. It's called CCleaner, and can be found here: http://www.ccleaner.com/ --- Now that you have CCleaner, let me guide you a little. I'm assuming Adobe 6.01 remains deleted from Program Files. - Right-click on the Recycle Bin and select Run CCleaner. - Click on 'Issues' on the left. - Now, under Registry Integrity, you might want to try only checking Obsolete Software, and see if it locates Adobe in the registry. If it does, then check those entries and any others you find that look familiar as old, deleted programs. - Next, you might check Applications and Application Paths and see if Adobe shows up in those. - Next you could check Installer, and see if there's any listing for Adobe, and process those. I'm having you do these in steps so that you don't get overwhelmed with too numerous entries to examine. When you ran CCleaner with its default settings, it may not have had the ones above selected, and it may require that you actively select them before it includes them. If it found any Adobe entries under these settings, go ahead and empty your recycle bin, reboot, and try again to install Adobe 7.07. -------------------------------------------------------- As a bonus for your good faith, you may find this previous answer of mine, on "bulletproof" computer security, to be of some value: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=568868 Best regards... sublime1-ga |

I think the answer is a much better solution than formatting hard drives. I'll definitely keep CCleaner installed and up to date. Thanks! |

You may have the Version 6 on a disk without knowing. Many computer games come with Adobe Acrobat Reader on the disk, have a look through any games you have. |

It keeps happining with softwares that use microsoft installer service Yes you need to reinstall version 6.x and then uninstall it. then u can re install 7.x version. these microsft installer files are present in windows\installer directory normally they are the whole installable package in the .msi extension format. if you want to avoid re installing 6.x and directly install 7.x then the path would be a more tedious one involving registry editing etc. I wouldnt recommend it to you if you are a beginner. As this always involves more risks of corruption of registry |
