Question ID: 718694
I am doing some research on baseball teams, and have had a little
trouble finding the answer (or sources). How many baseball teams are
there in America? I am primarily looking for high school and above.
So....how many high school baseball teams (include varsity, jv,
freshman)? How many college teams? How many professional baseball
teams? Thanks!

I have shortened my question to this:

How many college baseball teams are there in America?

NOTE: include the different levels of intercollegiate athletics such
as NCAA, NAIA, etc.

Thanks!

Hello, slamdunksy21-ga!

My husband is a big sports fan so I went straight to him with this
one! I was able to find listings for NCAA (National Collegiate
Athletic Association) Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA (National
Association for Intercollegiate Athletics); and NJCAA (National Junior
College Athletic Association) Divisions I, II, and III. Here is the
quick summary of what I found.

NCAA
Their website (unlike the NAIA and NJCAA sites) did not give a total,
but there were complete lists of participating schools. I counted each
list three times to be sure that I have the right number.

Division I: 286 participating schools
http://web1.ncaa.org/ssLists/sportByInst.do?sport=MBA&division=1

Division II: 236 participating schools
http://web1.ncaa.org/ssLists/sportByInst.do?sport=MBA&division=2

Division III: 362 participating schools
http://web1.ncaa.org/ssLists/sportByInst.do?sport=MBA&division=3

NAIA: 212 participating schools

NJCAA

Division I: 187 participating schools

Division II: 117 participating schools

Division III: 87 participating schools

Perfect...thanks.

I'm not too familiar with how this service works, but can I ask
another question for you to answer? I can pay more. Perhaps I post a
new question?

How many independent league teams (a different form of professional
baseball) are there in America?

Oops, sorry about the comment that says "Good luck to your son during
his season." I'm confusing your sports question with another one I've
recently read. My apologies! Hope the information is helpful!
