I would like to find data from 1900 to the present on Median Real
Wages Per Capita by year. It would also be interesting to see the
data on a Per Hour basis. I am looking for the overall US average,
not a specific industry.

http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy00/pdf/1999_erp.pdf

Page 103 Chart 3-2 shows median real income (in 1997 dollars) from 1979 to 1997.
I'll look for other years, but the data are scarcer than for the work week.

Sorry, meant to say median real wages...

I really need the data from 1900 to the present, even it if it
unavailable by year. I want to contrast the data with GDP / Person.
I would suspect the data would come up in articles about the income
gap.

cls3277-ga,

I found wage data that covers most of the 20th century, though you
would need to read it off a graph.

To view it, head to this link:

and click on the file named wages.jpg.

After you've had a look. let me know if it meets your needs.

I am very interested in the MEDIAN wages and not the average wages,
because I want to take out the skew related to the wealthy in the
mean/average.

THANKS!! PLEASE HELP!

cls3277-ga,

All sources I've seen indicate that there is very little long-term
historical data on wages. I think you'll have to content yourself
with what's available, rather than what would be ideal.

Sorry to have to break the news to you!

As you've probably noticed, two researchers have been working on this
answer. I just did not find median wages going back to 1900 in any of
the web searches I ran on this. Perhaps trying the reference desk at
your nearest city library might help. Or you could contact the BLS.
