Question ID: 718943
Background: It was mutually agreeded via a Seperation Agreement that
mutual property and a house would be my x-wife's. There were primary
and secondary mortgages on the home and property. The primary morgage
was in both our names and the secondary morgage was in just my name.
It was also agreeded that she would sell part of the property, paying
off the two mortages, and at that point I would sign a quick claim
deed making her the sole owner of the house and remaining property.
She also got all the additional proceeds from the sale. This is
taking place in North Carolina.

Question: Who would be liable for any taxes on the capital gains?

Re: redfoxjumps-ga comments:
I personally received no compensation beyound having the debts
settled. Her proceeds were not reinvested in real estate. I'm not
sure if she took a life-time.

I guess the better question is am I responsible for any taxes from
the capital gain?

Was it reinvested in real estate? There is some rollover provision.
And a life time exemption? exclusion ? Provision. Was that taken?
