What is the pantone color of Apple's beige computers? (Or, if pantone
specification isn't available, then how do I specify the specific
color?) This includes the Apple //, Apple ///, Lisa, and early Macs
(not the platinum colored Macs). If my early Mac has faded, what type
of paint (lacquer, enamel, etc.) should I repaint it with. The paint
has to be able to be acquired or used in a sprayer or spray can.
Where can I custom order the specific paint, in the right pantone
color, of the right type of paint, in a spray can?

A great answer would be:
"Go to http://<url> and order two cans of <enamel> spray paint, style
<xxx>, color Pantone <xxx> to repaint your old faded Apple computer"

Hello ericsf-ga,

Have you tried asking your question at some of the Mac devotee forums?

http://www.applefritter.com/main

I found one reference that stated that the old beige Mac color is Pantone 453.

Apple IIc/IIc+ Color

I also believe there was a difference in color between the Apple IIs
and the Macintosh line, the Mac family using Pantone 453 picked for
the original Macinstosh. Would be interesting to know if any of the
Apple II line ever changed to PMS 453 (or Fog for that matter) during
their production run. The Lisa would have been the same color as the
original Apple IIs since it matched the ProFile hard drive created for
the Apple III and adapted for the II and Lisa use only.

Alternately, have you considered modding your case? I?ve found lots of
resources for doing mods on new cases. Some of the sites also offer
painting your case for you with any color you like. I?m sure they
could match the color of your old Apple computer.

I have not posted to any of those sites. Good idea!
Pantone PMS 453 looks like it could be the right color, but I am
concerned that you think there may have been a different between the
Lisa and the Mac... I am repainting a Lisa. I was hoping to do this
myself, so where would I order that paint in a spray can? Otherwise, I
guess sending the case off to be repainted might be a good idea.

Hi ericsf-ga,

Thanks for the additional information. This is much tougher than you
would expect. I think some of the Mac enthusiast forums might be your
best bet. I'll look around to see what else I can find for you.

Hello again ericsf-ga,

I haven?t found anything else specifically aimed at repainting old
Apple computers. I think your best bet will be to get your case
painted. You can do it yourself or get a professional to do it. The
case modding sites might be especially helpful. Below I?ve listed
several resources to help you figure out how to proceed. Will this
meet your needs?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Paint It
If you don't want to paint your computer yourself, consider contacting
your local body shop painter, custom helmet painter, or motorcycle
painter. Many of these artists are able to paint small components, and
they do amazing work. You can usually choose almost any color of paint
you can imagine. If you are interested in adding custom designs to
your case, find an airbrush artist who can add cartoons, design logos,
and more.

Is it paint? Or is the color part of the plastic?

why not crab apple red? or sour apple green? Zebra stripes?
