What are the best months for a middle aged U.S. couple to tour Britain ?

That would depend upon exactly what the said couple's needs & goals
are for the trip.

I'm not sure why age should come into it - or indeed what you mean
exactly by "middle aged" - but from a weather point of view the best
period to tour Britain - especially if you plan to visit the the far
north of Scotland - is from about May to September. But touring at the
height of the holiday season in late July and August is not
recommended.
