I am looking for summer camps for my family so that we can all learn
American sign language. My family consists of myself, a hearing
person, my husband who is newly deafened and our 3 hearing children
ages 10, 8 and 4. We live in San Francisco, CA, so a camp an easy
drive from there is easiest, but does not rule out others.

Dear Clydey,
I sincerely hope that your husband has not also lost his power of
speech. Many years ago I met a person who had also lost his hearing
as an adult, but could still speak intelligibly. He worked with the
deaf and knew that his speech was not perfect, but did not hesitate to
use it.
I have tried to find sites about training for such persons, but couldn't.
Maybe someone else will have more success.

If he can speak, I urge you to encourage him and to seek a therapist
who helps deaf persons maintain their speech.

Regards, Myoarin
