Would you believe that the wind blew over a garden chair that upturned
a large can of motor oil that was sitting behaving itself on my patio?

Yes! The oil spread all over the stone tiles on my patio.

Ever resourceful, I hosed the tiles with water and brushed them
vigorously. Most of the oil has now gone but the patio (still wet) is
rather slippery.

I suspect that when it dries the oil may have discoloured some of the
tiles and they may still be slippery.

Any great ideas?

Please remember that I'm in the UK.

Many thanks!

Bryan

Please consider this question ON HOLD until my patio dries.

It looks as though bcattwood-ga's suggestion may have done the trick.

I've tried the stuff that I bought and it's dried OK, comparable to an
unstained tile.

Many thanks to everyone for the very helpful suggestions.

I am now going to close this question as the Comments have led me to a
great solution.

Pity about Olivia.

Maybe we could get together anyway, eh Olie?

All the Best

Did you use any soap/detergent when you scrubbed the first time? A
little liquid dishwashing soap and scrubbing should get rid of the
slipperiness. If you keep the amount to a minimum it shouldn't harm
any nearby plants.

I spilled some motor oil on my concrete driveway last fall and did
this. Although I could still see a little bit of a stain at first,
after six months of sun and weather it is no longer noticable.

Hi bcattwood-ga

Many thanks for your Comment.

No - I didn't use any soap/detergent but I will do so right away!

Hi, Again, bcattwood-ga

Done!

And all the oily slicks have gone and the patio is no longer slippery.

I am now reasonably hopeful that the problem may have been solved but
I shall wait until it dries.

Very many thanks for your prompt and (Fingers Crossed) effective solution.

Warmest Regards

Bryan

Hi Probonopublico,

This might be useful too. http://www.jelmar.com/CLRgroup.asp?p=CLRgrease
Or you could try this...

Or even this, where the solutions (and solvents) get inreasingly
powerful. I'm surprised that there wasn't a #8 using flame throwers,
plutonium and weapons of mass destruction!

Having left it to dry overnight, there is now a dark stain that is rather slippy.

Many thanks, Stressed Mum, for your suggestions: 'Grease Magnet' looks
good but I can't find it in the UK.

Instead, I found Olivia Newton-John as the sexy Sandy which has taken
my mind completely off the job in hand. What a Magnet! Now, what was I
talking about?

Oh yes, many thanks Easter Angel for the links. Unfortunately, these
took me to the Good Old US of A when I was still magnetised by the
lovely Olivia.

I shall now visit my local hardware store (it opens in about 1½ hours)
and see if they can find Olivia for me.

Reminder: Must wear my black leathers, just in case.

If I am successful, please turn up your speakers and listen to us doing a duo.

Any requests?

Sadly, there was no Olivia at the Hardware Store either in her
leathers or before the transformation. Hence, today's duo has been
cancelled.

BTW there was a huge crowd at the Hardware Store who had come to see
Olivia. Dunno why they expected to see her there.

However, I have got some other stuff that I'm now going to try.
