For the last 40 years, I have often wondered how many "units" (
LPs,cassettes,CDs ) did a particular rock 'album' sell , to date ? And
I don't need a break down by the media ; example: " How manytotal
units has the Beatles 'album' Revolver sold from the time it was
released till now ?" Or Blue Cheers' premier album, 'Vincebus Eruptum"
: released on vinyl in 1968 or 1969 , and now available on CD. How
many total units sold in 34 years ? If I had $15K a year to invest in
my quest , i could subscribe to Soundquest , the outfit that records
unit sales in major chain music stores around the world. But I don't
have $15K , so please do it for $4.00 ??? hwhite22 |

With the greatest respect, having had a look into this question, first
of all we would have to obtain a list of every album released on every
format in every country of the world individually by year from 1963 to
2000.
Then, find out how many albums sold for each of the thousands released
and add them up by year until we have a total, whilst remembering to
hand pick through them to remove any non-rock albums.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but for the sheer amount of research
that would be needed to answer this question, you would need in my
humble opinion to offer more than $4.00 to answer the same before
anyone would dive into the figures that would total billion and
billions.
Elvis Presley, Def Leopard, Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson, have between
the four of them sold more albums than there are stars in the galaxy.
