Can Wellbutrin XL (bupropion hydrochloride) make your blood alcohol content higher than if you hadn't taken it? Can Clonopin (clonazapam), Trazadone, or Cytomel make the reading higher than if you hadn't taken them? Thank you very much. |

WELLBUTRIN XL is not for everyone. There is a risk of seizure with WELLBUTRIN XL which increases with higher doses. Taking more than 450 mg/day increases the chance of serious side effects. Don?t use it if you?ve had a seizure or eating disorder, or if you abruptly stop using alcohol or sedatives. Don?t take with MAOIs, or medicines that contain bupropion. When used with a nicotine patch or alone, there is a risk of increased blood pressure, sometimes severe. To reduce risk of serious side effects, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems. Other side effects may include weight loss, dry mouth, nausea, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, or sore throat. Do not drink a lot of alcohol while taking WELLBUTRIN XL. If you usually drink a lot of alcohol, talk with your doctor before suddenly stopping. If you suddenly stop drinking alcohol, you may increase your chance of having seizures. Patients should be told that the excessive use or abrupt discontinuation of alcohol or sedatives (including benzodiazepines) may alter the seizure threshold. Some patients have reported lower alcohol tolerance during treatment with WELLBUTRIN XL. Patients should be advised that the consumption of alcohol should be minimized or avoided. By making the reading higher, are you talking about when the cops breath test you? Or are you talking about getting drunk more easily. It's best to avoid drinking heavily with any psychoactive drug, whether used as an antidepressant, anxiolyic or antipsychotic. If you're just starting a medication, try not to drink at all (unless you're an alcoholic - don't stop suddenly!) until you get a feel for how the medication affects you. You may get/feel drunk more easily on those medications. They shouldn't affect your BAC much though. Taking meds is no excuse for being over the limit if you're caught by a policeman! If they do increase your BAC, then you'll be feeling it too. When you get a breath test, it's not how much you drink, but how 'drunk' your body is. |
