Where can I find (cheaply) an SDIO extension cable? One end, male,
would go into an SDIO device such as a phone or PDA. The other end,
female, would act like an SDIO card reader slot. In between would be a
ribbon cable or otherwise some generic copper cable connecting the
two.

It's for connecting a Veo 1.3 Megapixel to a camera-less Treo 650. The
Treo's antenna gets in the way of the camera, but I've read reports
that it does work with the Treo 650 (one user removed his antenna,
something I'm not interested in doing).

An extention cable seems like a nice solution to your problem. I have
never seen a cable like this for sale, however you should be able to
make on very easyly. if you can solder.

You will need:
1) A female SD card slot -> http://www.mouser.com/catalog/625/982.pdf
2) An unneeded floppy drive cable
3) A dead or cheap SD card. You may be able to get one of those
useless 16MB cards that comes with digital cameras from a camera shop.
4) Hot glue gun.
5) Heat shrink tubing.

What to do:
1) Seperate a clump of 9 wires from the floppy drive cable of the
length you want your extention to be.
2) Solder the wires to the pins on the female socket and cover the
whold thing with some heat shrink/hot glue/whatever.
3) Carefully pry open the dead SD card and pull out the circuit board.
4) remove the memory chip and solder the wires to the pads that where
used to attach the chip.
5) Close up the SD card with some hot glue.

I haven't done this before but it should work.

That sure sounds like it will do the trick - I suspected I'd have to
make the cable myself but wanted to make sure there were no
manufacturers of cheap SDIO extension cables. I'll try it. How come
you commented but didn't answer the question?
