I'd like a list of the top 25 selling cancer therapeutics (generic
names listed with approximate yearly market sales -- for 2004 or 2005
worldwide or US) AND the chemical name and structure of the drugs. The
structure can be pasted in as a picture or provided as a link. For
example one item on the list might be:

# Generic name Sales Chemical Name Structure

17. Temozolomide $215M (2005, US)
3,4-dihydro-3-methyl-4-oxoimidazo[5,1-d]-as-tetrazine-8-carboxamide
structure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Temozolomide.png

There is no need to include structures or chemical names for
antibodies or peptides.

The important part of the question is the chemical name & structure.
The sales need not be exactly right, although I would like to get a
general idea of where each drug ranks and I'm only interested in the
top 25 right now (although if you get more this would be great!).

sko123-ga,

There does not appear to be a readily-availble, free source of
information that lists the top 25 cancer drugs.

I think I can probably tease out such a list from numerous discrete
sources, but that alone would take a substantial (i.e. $200-worth)
amount of effort.

Let me suggest two possible ways to move forward on your question:

1. If you could supply us with a list of the drugs of interest to
you, we could look into the generic name and structure information for
you.

2. If you don't have such a list, perhaps this current question
should be pared down to simiply developing a list of the Top 25 cancer
drugs. You could then ask a separate question seeking names/structure
for each of the drugs.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Pafalafa-ga,
For $200 you can find the trade names and sales of the top 50 cancer
drugs and I'll worry about the chemical names and structures later.
Thanks

Hello sko123-ga,

This is a very tough search because the sales ranking information
about cancer drugs and therapeutics is closely guarded and generally
only available from very expensive databases. Commercial Insight:
Generic Cancer Market is a December 2005 Datamonitor report that has
most of the information you?re looking for but it costs $15,200. Many
other market research reports are available on the cancer therapeutics
and drugs industry for similarly high prices.

After extensive searching I was able to identify a report of the Top
200 Drugs for 2004 by U.S. Sales. This report gives a listing of Rank,
Product, Company and US Sales in $Billions. I reviewed this list and
identified 24 cancer drugs. This was very time consuming because I had
to click on the product name of each drug I didn?t recognize to see if
it was a cancer drug. Fortunately, the link in this table for each
drug provides the generic names that you asked for.

Next, I used databases available from the FDA and the National Library
of Medicine to find the additional technical information you wanted. I
was able to locate the molecular formula and systematic name for each
of the 24 drugs I had identified. In addition, the ChemIDplus database
had the diagram of the structure of the drug for about half of the
drugs on my list.

In the course of my search I found some additional resources that were
helpful in providing information about current market trends and I was
able to identify some additional drugs that you might want to know
about even without having the information about their sales figures.

I consolidated all of the information I gathered into an Excel
spreadsheet showing the following items:
 -- Cancer Drug Rank
 -- NDC Rank
 -- Product Name
 -- Company
 -- U.S. Sales $Billions
 -- Generic Name
 -- Systematic Name
 -- Molecular Formula
 -- Structure

You can download the table from this address.

Be sure to do it as soon as possible since it will be available only
for a few days.

The information you want is tough to find. I wish you well for
continuing your research.
