A previous search failed to locate the precise quote finding only
Charles Dickens' Mr. Bumble in Oliver Twist saying..."the law be a
ass". I believe the original was attributed to Francis Bacon but have
been unable to find the exact quote.

I spent several hours on this the last time you posted the question. I
found no verifiable references to the quote which use the exact
wording that you've given. Many of those who use this wording
attribute it to Dickens, and it looks to me as if it is an alteration
of the Dickens quote rather than a genuine quote from some other
source.

The actual Dickens quote says "the law is a ass."

Perhaps the confusion is that the musical "Oliver!" based on the
Dickens Novel "Oliver Twist" uses the phrasing you mention, which is a
slight variance from the book.

per Kriswrite-ga above...

1969 musical in the US (I think it got the Oscar for best Picture)
uses the phrase as you have written it.
