I would like to know about becoming a Registered Nurse in Australia. I am a RN here in the US, with US citizenship. I graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree from a community college in Michigan. It was a year of sciences and pre-reqs and then two years of just nursing study. Since graduation in May 2003 all of my jobs have been in pediatrics. I am hoping to do a travel assignment to Australia for at least 6 months to one year. Specifically I am looking for whether I can become a RN in Australia without a BSN, if so what the requirements are adn who I contact, and companies that have tmeporary travel assignments. Thanks so much! |

I work at a large university in the state of Queensland, Australia, where students study nursing among other things. I'm not sure but if you contacted the Nursing Faculty here they may be able to assist you with your queries, or at least point you in the right direction by giving you a Govt department or some such thing to contact. The web site for the University is: www.griffith.edu.au My mother has been a nurse for 45 years but is only a casual with an agency now, so when I called her she was unable to help. However, she has worked with many nurses over the years who have come from other countries for permanent or temporary work. The nursing industry in Australia is painfully under-staffed and I think that if you could get the proper paperwork approved with regard to a work visa etc, you would have no problem at all finding work with an agency or any private or public hospital. I hope this helps! ~* Schylaar *~ |
