Hello, I'm moving to another country and I can't take my computer with me (exporting computers to this country is restricted but you can buy them there once you're in there). So what I would like to do is somehow transfer files and programs (like Word, Palm, this flashcard program, etc.) to this new computer. What's the best way of doing this and how do I do it? I heard I can transfer programs onto a USB storage device and then reinstall it on the new computer but how do I do this? Or is there some kind of internet service that allows me to download my programs onto it, and then I can log on and download it to my computer? I understand this might be a lengthy answer so you can direct me to articles that show me how to do this, thanks. |

The easiest way would be to take a Hard Disk. If you can consider taking in a USB Storage Device then why not a Hard Disk? |

Depending upon the size of your files, you could burn it on a DVD (which is the cheapeast method). Actually, you can even make an image of your harddrive and store it on multiple dvd's and just recover it on new computer. In effect, your new computer will become a mirror image of your old computer. REgards, Shane |

but be aware that this will not allow you to transfer installed programs or windows itselt. Your old harddisk ist not likely to boot up in a new computer correctly. It can. But that is sheer luck. So take your original software (Word etc.) with you. Or consider yousendit.com to send it to yourself. good luck |

If your files are not that big, you might want to consider getting a USB thumbdrive as it is small and compact. There is a 2GB thumbdrive in the market currently |

Hi. Well, I recommend you a USB Hard Disk, because it's simple, it's cheap and it's very portable. Go to a informatic shop and buy it. Buy a USB Hard Disk with 120 Gigabytes minium, because you'll can transfer more files in the future. When you have a USB Hard Disk, connect the USB cable to your computer (you can do it with your computer ON), and go to "MyPC". You'll see a new unit drive in your PC. A DVD Recovery system doing images of your Hard Drive is a bad option! Why? Because your new computer will have other devices and properties, and if you install the Hard Drive image from another PC, your new computer will say "nooooooooo....". It's like install a Ford Car's 4x4 Motor in a Renault Car |
