This site claims that the average American drinks:
25 gallons of beer
2 gallons of wine and
1.5 gallons of spirits per year.

I'm guessing that the average:
beer is 16 ounces
wine is 8 ounces
mixed drink contains 1.5 ounces (of spirits)

Since there are 128 ounces per gallon, this comes out to:
200 beers
32 glasses of wine
128 mixed drinks/large shots

I am guessing that the average woman drinks about 60% of what the
average man drinks. This would have men drinking about:
280 beers
45 glasses of wine
180 mixed drinks/large shots
For a total of about 500 drinks per year which is 42 drinks per month.
