Dear tmyankey-ga,

Whoops, I clicked on the wrong button. I'll repost my answer in the
answer part.

I happened upon The Silicon Valley Web Directory, and it listed 1,055
companies in the computer industry when I checked on Oct. 7, 2002.
1,206 computer industry companies are considered outside of Silicon
Valley. This page contains an alphabetically arranged list, wherein
each entry is a link to the company's official website. The page has a
'98 or '99 copyright, and there are no other extensive lists and pages
unfortunately.

I'll quote the page on how location in "Silicon Valley" is defined, in
case you want to know: "Companies considered inside Silicon Valley are
those whose headquarters are located within 100 miles of San Jose. 98%
of these companies are within 25 miles of the SF Bay. All other
companies are considered outside Silicon Valley."

Silicon Valley Web Directory - Company list

Alternative URL: http://gocee.com/valley/s1_compi.htm

http://www.livefromsiliconvalley.com/employers/employers.html has
another list of 200+ companies that is offered to jobseekers, so this
doesn’t list everybody.

Hope this is a good answer. Thanks for asking.

Hello again tmyankey,

I recently found new links that might help you. I got the idea after
reading that Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo spoke to the
Bay Area top 200. I searched that out afterwards.

Hope this helps you further.

Hello,

In hopes of helping answer this question, I contacted the Silicon
Valley Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce.

San Jose / Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce
     http://www.sjchamber.com/

I ended up corresponding with a Lina Furneri (linaf@sjchamber.com),
who referred me to the San Jose Office of Economic Development:

San Jose Office of Economic Development
60 South Market Street, Suite 470
     San Jose, CA 95113
     408 277 5880
     www.do-biz-here.com

After digging into their web site, I think the following excerpt may
be useful to you:

"Today, the San Jose metropolitan area is home to over 6,233
high-tech companies employing over 250,000 people."

Thanks,

-Boingo
