It is a question which daunts most new website managers: "Having a
website is wonderful - but how do you get people to get there to look
at it?"

The first step is securing your company's name and any variations
around it. Even if you already have a website with an existing Web
Hosting company, then any domain names can be forwarded to your
existing website. Some tips to consider are:

"Register Keyword Rich domain names that are going to help increase
your search engine rankings."

"Hyphenated .com's are great for the search engines. That's why it is
important to have www .widgetsmith.com and www .widget-smith.com."

"Generally, the shorter the domain name the easier it is to remember
or write down, and the less chance of users noting and remembering it
incorrectly. Restrict the domain name to one, two or three words at
most."

"Register a long domain name that contains a list of words relevant to
your site. This will help achieve a higher ranking in some search
engines. Several of the major search engines rank web sites much
higher if the search terms are contained in the domain name."

"If you are planning on releasing other products or services from this
domain name in the future then don't limit the relevance to the
initial product or service. That being said Internet marketing experts
believe that your web site should have only one subject or focus. All
products or services listed on the web site should be related. A web
site with a broad focus is not as appealing to someone who is looking
for particular information."

"If your domain is targeted at a world-wide audience then stay away
from words that are spelt differently throughout the world, such as
words ending in ize(US)/ise(UK). This also applies to many words that
have different meanings throughout the world. Some common English
words are even offensive in other languages."

Once the website is up and running, one of the main ways of getting
people to your website is to make sure that it is full of keywords
relevant to your business. Search Engines utilize robots to review the
content on Web Sites. When submitting main pages to a search engine,
you're basically scheduling the robot to visit and spider your whole
site (in most cases). Without structuring your main page to be SE
friendly, these robots can report back to the Engine and list your
site somewhere in the nether reaches of their database, never to be
seen again. Since each search engine has a different criteria used to
evaluate your site, you will have to be well versed in knowing the
tweaks necessary for each engine if one wants to achieve top listings.

Your "keyword universe" is the foundation of online marketing success.
Targeting the wrong phrases will only result in a waste of both time
and money. As well, keyword phrases which are too general are equally
ineffective; you will be bringing tire kickers not buyers to your
site. When employing a pay-per-click strategy this will waste your
marketing dollars and show a poor "Return on Investment." You can
maximize your marketing budget by working directly with Web Marketing
Researchers.

The following sites provide web-based business with a multitude of
services which can help increase traffic. Some provide free services.
Since you are ultimately the one to choose your domain name and
keywords used on your website, it is better if you work directly with
these agencies. These sites are also the references used in
formulating this answer.
