I recall reading a book when I was 12-14 years old. It was set in
Victorian England, about a young girl, her mother had either had her
out of wedlock or her father had died. Anyway she had to go and live
with her grandmother, who was awful to her. What I remember most is
the sadness of the little girl.
I am 38 years old now so the book must be at least 25 years old.

The cover I think has a road with her standing on it and victorian
houses on either sides of the street.
I think the title had the words yesterday in it, but I may be mistaken.
