I have a UNIX COMP6 file that has some sort of packed fields, and I cannot read it in Excel or MS Access. If you can crack it, I'd appreciate it. The data file and description of the data file can be found here: http://floridalandco.com/helpshare.zip | |

There is no way to post a file of that size on Google Answers. A researcher might be able to put the file somewhere else and post a link to it here. I will not be answering this question myself, but I will share some information in case any other researcher wants to pursue it. The zip file to which the question links contains two files. One is the data file and the other is a PDF file containing a record layout in the COBOL programming language. Some of the fields in the record are declared COMP-6, which is a binary-coded decimal format. The unpacked data file contains 7,813,106 bytes. The record layout contains about 76 fields. |
