These clues will suck, but that's why I'm asking here. Roughly 1 to 3
maybe 5 years ago there was a pop Christian song (Its not the one that
says "What if god was one of us...") but was out near that time frame.
I never heard any DJ say who sang the song. A woman sang it, and it
had a unique
sound, her voice seemed like a combination of Enya and Sinead
O'Connor, (for all I know it could have been one of them) and it was
played on regular top 40 stations. I think the song was Christian,
although I can't remember the lyrics, the message was centered on
praising "him". Sorry for this terrible set of clues. |

Her voice was higher pitched a bit than Sinead or Enya...the sound had
very minor echo effect in the song also...

Could it be Sarah McLachlan? Her voice matches your description and
some of her lyrics could be interpreted as you describe.

For all I know you might be right, as far as the song in particular
there were a few references to "him" or "he" in the clear context of
"him or he" being god. A ideas about a possible song?

I apologize for the very limited info I am providing. All I clearly
remember is that the song sold, it did very well. It wasn't a number
one song, got a lot of radio time. Sorry, I know this doesn't help
much. I also noticed that the song "one of us" by Joan Osborne was
out in the mid 90's. The song I am looking for was out no earlier
than 99 to 00.

Here is one of Sarah McLachlan's albums from around that period.
Listen to some of the samples and let me know if it seems like the
same voice.

It could be, the main difference is that the tempo was faster than
these examples. The theme was definitely religious, it did cross over
into main
stream radio play, and had a minor "echo" effect, it sounded mutilayered or
very polyphonic, I wish I could be of better help.

It only sort of fits your description, but there's Who Will Save Your
Soul by Jewel.

Try sampling all things Amy Grant. She was (and continues to be) one
of the most well-known singers of religious/country/pop crossover
style mysic.

It isn't Amy Grant, the singer I'm searching for has a subtle,
slightly detectable Irish or English accent.

Sorry. I misspelled her name. That should have been "Charlotte Church"

All I can tell you all is that the song was quite popular, it did well
enough to get plenty of air time, it was religious in nature, the
woman had a great voice and it had a small echo or reverb effect. I
certainly appreciate all the effort and thought you've all put into
it, and I know I am giving little to assist, so thanks.

We may find it yet. Try listening to some samples of Charlotte
Church's recordings. She is originally from Cardiff, Wales has a
rather haunting voice like the one your described (both with and
without artificial assistance).
