I am looking for a first edition printing of "Como Agua Para
Chocolate" by Esquivel, Laura ("Like Water for Chocolate" in English).
I am looking for the Mexican printing of this book in Spanish. The
American English first edition is fairly easy to come by and
reasonably priced, but the only Spanish printings that I can find are
from America not Mexico.
I have found this page about the first edition printings of the book
and it may help you in your search:

I am specifically looking for either a website link, or a phone number
of a store where I can purchase this book. They must have it in stock
so that I can purchase it at that time. I don't mind if the store is
located in America or Mexico. I would like to be able to have the book
shipped to me at home in California, but if for some reason the book
must be picked up in person I would like to have it be within 500
miles of the zip code 91355. |

Yes that is the correct edition of the book that I am looking for. I
unfortunatly never thought that it would be that expensive as the
American first printings are ~$100. Since you did your job you of
course deserve payment, but if you could find it for a more reasonable
price ~$300 I would greatly appreciate it and would thank you with a
nice tip.

Since there is such a great difference in price, I'm not sure if this
is the same edition as the one I previously posted the link to.
However, the book details are exactly the same:
ESQUIVEL, Laura, Como agua para chocolate. Mexico City: Planeta, 1989 0
Octavo. 244pp. First edition of this charming novel, which revolves
around Mexican cooking and folk remedies. A great best-seller in
Mexico, and the inspiration of a successful film. Very good + in
publisher's illustrated wrappers.
$US 650.00.

I'm not sure that the books that were linked are in fact the original
first printings in Mexico. They may actually be a paperback copy of
the book. Through my searches I found this site: www.livrenoir.com .
If you search for "Como Agua Para Chocolate" you will find one that
has these details:
Laura Esquivel, Como agua para chocolate: Novela de entregas mensuales
con recetas, amores y remedios caseros (Colecci?n F?bula)
Editorial Planeta Mexicana. A very good copy. Softcover. 244 pp. ISBN: 9684061404
Price: US$22.52
It clearly says that it is a paperback copy of the book and is 244
pages. I know that it is possible that the hardcover first edition and
the softcover first edition of the book could be the same number of
pages, but it seems highly unlikley. I am a bit weary now that I think
of it that the original book didn't have any indication about it's
binding.

After further research I have not been able to locate any other
sellers carrying a first edition at a cheaper price.
My suggestion would be to contact them and find out whether the book
is hardback and indeed a first edition.
See the link I previously posted:
