Are SFP style transceivers like those used in a Dell 3448P switch
compatible with GBIC style transceivers like those used in a Cisco
6500 SUP2? I have two single mode fiber optic cable strands that are
terminated in SC style connectors. Assuming I have the correct fiber
optic patch cables, can I connect a Dell 3448P with a 1000BASE-LX
transceiver into a Cisco 6500 with a GBIC?

My understanding of your situation is you have Cisco switch with SC
GBICS (assuming they are single mode) and Dell switch with SFC
connector on other end. You are trying to connect these 2 switches
together.

Yes you can connect these 2 switched together without any issue. All
you need is a SC-LC patch cable and make sure that both switches have
single mode interfaces on them. Different kind of connectors are not
an issue. As long as they are both single mode and use same wavelegnth
you would be Ok.
