Will om company's MS Exchange work with my home computer's Windows XP home edition.
I connot resolve my User Name from the home computer. The user name
did "approve" on my office laptop running XP Pro.

When answering this question a few other details need to be clarified.

Are you connecting to your office via VPN?
Are you connecting via POP3?

Since you mention resolving the username, I assume you are trying to
connect to the option that says Microsoft Exchange Server in the
mailbox setup properties.

Chances are you can not connect that way unless you connect to the
vpn, or use pop3. I have never seen a case where a user connected to
an office account directly over the web, without the previous listed
items.
