I'm looking for a list of holidays or celebrations that take place
within a calendar year.

For example these would include mainstream holidays such as Christmas,
Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween but it would also include
obscure holidays or celebrations like Groundhog Day, Shortest month of
the year, start of summer, longest day of the year, shortest day of
the year ect.

I'd like them in a text file listed according to the month, date and
holiday. Here is an example:

December
24 - Christmas Eve
25 - Christmas Day
26 - Boxing Day
31 - New Years Eve

January
1 - New Years Day

The more holidays and celebrations the better (even if they maybe
silly). Finally, I'd also like a list of things that maybe celebrated
throughout the year but not have a defined date on the calendar for
everyone. These things could include birthdays, anniversaries,
weddings, ect.

These can simply be listed underneath the calendar celebrations.

Thanks for your help!!

Sorry I forgot to add that I would also like to know any dedicated
"month of" holiday's like "Black History Month", "Prevention of Animal
Cruelty Month" ect.

Stu_mc10,

Take a look at this list of daily and monthly events and holidays
listed for January.
http://www.a2zgorge.info/calendar/historyevents/01janhistory.html

You mentioned that you would accept silly events as well; but there
might be some events on this listing that are too silly to include.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Bobbie,

Thanks for your response.

I agree with you in that some of them are a little overboard.
Basically as long as it's fairly reasonable then let's include it but
if it seems "forced" then not.

For example, "Secretary Day" is good but "TV Repair Man Day" seems far
fetched and wouldn't therefore be good for the list.

Most of the holidays on the website you gave me for January seem "made
up" and a little too unrealistic.

As long as they are reasonable let's go for them :)

Thanks again for your help.

stu_mc10-ga,

The best list that I know of is the one at the Infoplease page, which
gives holidays, major events (like daylight savings) and "month of"
designations:

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0901046.html

For instance, here are the listings for April:

POETRY MONTH

1?April Fool's Day
2?Daylight Saving Time begins
9?Palm Sunday
11?Mawlid al-Nabi*
13?1st Day of Passover*
14?Good Friday
16?Easter Sunday
23?Orthodox Easter

Does this listing meet your needs?
