stopping folder view settings from changing when renaming folders?

I rename commonly used work folders quite alot, and i rename the
folder on the days in which i make changes to the folder.

Because i have so many work folders I like to see the lastest version
of the folder, thus I insert the date on folders -

for example - my general accounts folder is named "260406 General accounts"

tomorrow it may be "270406 General accounts"

I find this is an easy way of tracking the latest version of a
workfolder instead of looking at the properties of the folder each
time.

The problemm with this is that for different folders i have custom
views and sizes, and by default eveytime the folder is renamed it goes
back to the default folder setting which is annoying.

Is there anything i can do to stop the folder going back to its
default settings when i rename it?

I have known about this for quite some time, but never completely went
into detail with it. There is a special file in Microsoft Windows
called the Desktop.ini file. This file can make a spacific folder's
looks very different.

But windows did not make it eassy to minipulate. However I did the
"dirty" work for you by going into my registry and finding each key
for each view.

Ok, now for the instructions:

1. In the folder that you wish to test out make a new file called
"Desktop.ini" (without quotes).
2. Open that file up in Notepad (you should beable to just double click on it).
3. Past the coresponding text into the Desktop.ini file:

For Thumbs view use:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
Default={8BEBB290-52D0-11d0-B7F4-00C04FD706EC}

For Titles view use:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
Default={65F125E5-7BE1-4810-BA9D-D271C8432CE3}

For Icons view use:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
Default={0057D0E0-3573-11CF-AE69-08002B2E1262}

For List view use:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
Default={0E1FA5E0-3573-11CF-AE69-08002B2E1262}

For Details view use:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
Default={137E7700-3573-11CF-AE69-08002B2E1262}

4. Save the file with the coresponding information in it.
5. The next time you rename your folder the changes will have taken effect.

If you wish for the changes to take effect right away do the following
(however, this is NOT recommended, due to the handling of essencial
Windows information!)

Before attempting this please close all windows but this one (the one
you are using to read this information.

Click: Start>Run
Type: "msconfig" (without quotes)
Click: "OK"
Follow the tree to this information:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags"
Delete that entire directory by:
Right-Click on it, and click "Delete"
Then click "Yes" if you are sure you wish to do this.

BUT THIS METHOD IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

Correction to that last statment:

To make the Desktop.ini file you need to follow these steps:

In the folder you wish to apply the settings, Right-Click on the
folder and select "Properties". Select the "Customize" tab. Then Click
the button that says: "Change Icon". Select any of the icons listed,
then click "Ok", then you may click "Ok" again.

This will create a hidden file called "Desktop.ini" with some
information that you just customized it with. You will need to open
the "Dektop.ini" file and erase all the info that is in there, then
add the info stated earlier.

If you cannot see the Desktop.ini file, open it by doing the following:

In the status bar, while in the folder that you applied the settings
to above, add "\Desktop.ini" (without quotes) to the end of the
address and click "Go".

This should open the Desktop.ini file in Notepad.

Sorry for the mixup,
