I have a Mac Powerbook g3 running system 9.2 @ 233 mgz, with 96 MBs of
memory. I purchased it used.

I want scanning on this SCSI system to be optimal, especially for OCR.

Two Questions: 1) What is the best scanning configuration? My
research shows that the best combination of drivers & software would
be Want Presto! Page Manager 2.40.05 & VistaScan 3.5.1. VistaScan is
no longer available in that edition - it's now 3.75.

So do I buy the Page Manager & 3.75, or will they not work well? In
that case, where do I get unsupported versions – I’ve looked
everywhere. So answering that they won't work well necessitates you
providing them!

2) How do I get OCR to work and dump into Word 98

You might want to investigate the VueScan software:
