Since it is not stated clearly which illegals are involved in
question, let me say that it is not totally true that no illegals are
jailed. When I retired in 1997, a man who gives the whole human
species a bad "Rapp" was federal prosecutor in Iowa. He decided to
pack illegals off to jail.
His catch included both a man and a woman, not related to each other,
who were brought to the States by parents when they were still
children and had no choice in the matter. They knew no other life;
they had no memories of Mexico and no resources there.
Both had children. Both were packed off to jail, and were to be
deported with little chance to make preparations for their children to
be taken care of, except from a jail cell. Their children were US
citizens.
They were deported, with the condition if they returned they would
receive five years in Federal prison. The man did come back to see
about his children; he was caught, and was indeed sent to Federal
prison.
This was all reported in the Des Moines Register, with a number of
op-eds on the issue. |
