Hello. You're correct. Laura Bush is not Hispanic. Mrs. Bush was born "Laura Lane Welch" in 1946. Her parents were Harold Bruce Welch and Jenna Louise Hawkins. Genealogy.com has an extensive family tree for her at: http://www.genealogy.com/famousfolks/laura-bush/index.htm Combing through the various generations of her family tree, it's pretty clear from the surnames that Laura Bush does not have Hispanic ancestry. Perhaps your friend is thinking of Florida's first lady (and President Bush's sister-in-law) Columba Bush, who is a native of Mexico. http://www.myflorida.com/myflorida/governorsoffice/firstlady/biography.html --------- search strategy: "laura bush" geneaology I hope this helps. |

Your friend may be thinking of Jeb Bush, the President's brother. His wife, Columba, is Hispanic. She was born in Mexico. http://www.puertorico-herald.org/issues/2002/vol6n32/PRPerspect0632-en.shtml |
