Question ID: 724209
I recieved a summons for disorderly conduct in New York City(240.20).
The officer filled out the summons incorrectly. He entered my last
name where my first name should be and he put my first name where my
last name should be. However he did enter my NY license number
correctly. Should I bother answering this summons since it is
technically for another person? Thanks!

Just to clarify. My name appears correctly on the i.d. that I produced
for the police officer.

My guess is that the court won't buy your argument. Given that your
license number is correct, and that there's only one person, you, to
whom that number belongs, the judge will (in my estimation) allow that
the officer made a trivial mistake. This sort of thing must happen
rather regularly. The only thing to hope for is that there really is
someone licensed with that first/second name who can demonstrably be
shown to have been at that location that day.

To recap: you are not going to appear in court because you the summons
is not correctly filled out. I guess the worst thing that could
happen is that the judge will issue a warrant for your arrest and the
next time you are stopped you will be locked up and have to post bail
to get out. Sounds like a winning course of action to me.
