Hello, this is a legal question regarding re-labeling individual parts
of a finished good with special regards to country of origin and
producer.

If an individual part of a finished good (in this case an electric
motor) is made in China, however the finished good (a vacuum cleaner)
is assembled/produced in the US, can the assembling company re-label
the individual part to not include its country of origin and the name
of the company which built the motor?

In this case, the motor is made in China, however the assembling
company wishes to replace the original label (from the original
producer) with their own, removing the "Made in China" piece as well
as the name of the original producing company.

That would constitute fraud. The final product should be labeled,
"Assembled in the United States of U.S. and Chinese parts."

Hmm, so is a country of origin required? Werent looking to change it
to USA, just to remove the China part. Just clarifying, thanks for
your input...

Also, to clarify.

This label question is for a part of the whole (just the motor in the
vacuum). The finished good label I understand (Assembled + Chinese/US
parts). Basically we want to know about the label for an individual
piece of the vacuum.

Thanks.
