For four years I sold antiques and collectibles on line by transferring photos from my hard drive and downloading to my website. Then I added XP to my (2000 Dell Demension66cxC eleron Processor @566MHz63TX301 computer). My camera is Pretec DC-600.The Pretec Co. sent me another cable and a camera card. I was unable to use these items and returned them to the company. Now that I was unable to get help from the company, I don't know which way to go. I have not been able to continue with my small business. Can you Help? Thanks. |

I dont know if you are using the serial or usb connections. But make sure you remove all the old drivers from your computer. To do this unplug the device, restart your machine. After the restart go and Right-Click on My Computer and go to Properties. Then go to the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager. Depending on your set up you will have to poke around and look for the Pretec DC-600. If you do not see it then that is also okay. Now go to this website : http://www.pretec.com/ftp/620.zip . Download the drivers, install them. Turn off your computer, connect the camera and turn on your computer. Hopefully this will work for you. |

Hopefully the above works, butif you can't get it to hook up. you can always go to walgreens and pay to have the pics on the flash card put on a cd, that will get you by until you can figure something else out. |

Your Windows 2000 machine or did you mean, a computer bought in the year 2000 Dell Dimension 66cx Celeron 566 Mhz machine. Your machine was built before WinXP compliant components (hardware)and drivers are needed to make this machine work. Its like putting a 2006 Corvette transmission on a 1993 Yugo chasis- it might not work. Now if you bought a computer from the year 2003 version of Dell, its components might be all WinXP compliant and should work fine... but remember the Protec camera must have WinXP compliant drivers (CD) in order to function on a WinXP machine and its high speed USB ports. I hope this helps you. PS I recommend the Canon Powershot series G2 (cheap on amazon or bestbuy or Ebay or Computershopper.com) - works like a charm. |

You can eliminate that problem by using the Compact Flash card, and a $15 card reader. The card readers are universal and can run on 9x, ME, 2000 & XP. When the Compact Flash is inserted, all the images are captured to the CF card and the internal memory is disabled. Also many PC's have card readers in them today. |
