Hi. I just created simple page for my fiance and I...check it out at
www.qgetshitched.com

It's very simple, I plan on expanding. But on my browser (IE 6) i get
an error

(runtime error has occurred permission denied line: 169)

The url is www.qgetshitched.com

You get the error if you go that way. But if you go directly to
geocities, you don't get the error - that may have something to do
with it. But you may get other errors. I am only worried about errors
that people may have if they go to www.qgetshitched.com (as that is
the only way people will access the site). This question obviously
needs someone with html expertise...though hopefully not much (thus
the low price). If this is a complicated problem please let me know
and I will up the price offered.

www.geocities.com/busselle

Here is the html code:

At the end of your code, add the following tag:

<noscript>

Example: http://www.geocities.com/bookfacega/busselle.htm

This should eliminate the error from the code being loaded into your
page at the end. Although, as previously mentioned, most people won't
ever see this error message; under most peoples' browser preferences,
the only indication anything is wrong is a little yellow hazard icon
in place of the standard e-page in the bottom left-hand corner of
their browser window, if anything.

Hi - I thank you all for the answers. I'm still getting an error,
though - now it is a permission denied error, asks if i want to
continue running scripts.

bookface if you have any way of turning off this error like you did
the last one, I'd love to know it. If not I thank you for your
advice...you should receive payment shortly.

Thanks again!

This FAQ answer, although addressed to javascript/frame situations,
explains the error message you're getting.

From http://jibbering.com/faq/ :
"4.19 Why do I get permission denied when accessing a frame?

In the normal browser security it is impossible for a script from
one domain to access properties of pages served from another
domain or by a different protocol, and any attempt by your script
to access a property of a window in a different domain will result
in a permission denied error. Signed scripts, or trusted ActiveX's
can overcome this in limited situations."

Unfortunately Dotster.com tries to treat URL forwarding by making the
page look like it's own, instead of providing URL forwarding via a
meta-tag. This keeps the name at the top the same (
www.qgetshitched.com instead of www.geocities.com/busselle ), but it
means that you are violating security permissions if you run a
javascript from on the site, which you must by virtue of Geocities'
advertisement method.

You have some options.
1. Sacrifice the constant www.qgetshitched.com at the top, and allow
adverts to show, by having the frame make itself the parent. Unless
Dotster.com has an option to "hide forwarded name" or something along
those lines that you can uncheck, then you need to put this code in
the Geocities page. You can add the code on this page:
   http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/framebreak.shtml

2. Let it be. As discussed previously, very few people will ever see
that error message; you can easily turn it off yourself, via a
checkbox in the very error message, and most people do if it's not
turned off by default, because many web sites have Javascript errors
(not security issues, but real errors) in their code. As an added
bonus, you're getting free web hosting without advertisements; that's
something to be happy about.

3. Buy domain hosting. You can either do this through Dotster.com or
investigate other options.

4. Try a different free server. Tripod.com, for instance, only inserts
a plain image into your web page code instead of Javascript. You can
use their services concurrently with the "url hiding" you have now, if
you are willing to suffer that look with the gifs at the top of the
page.

Thanks for your question.

Hello,

Strange.. I don't get the runtime error on I.E. 6 (Win ME)
but the default privacy filter setting blocks the cookies?? Wieirdness

I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with code that the Geocities
server adds to the page, so it may be out of your control. Or it
might be a bug with the Yahoo page-building software, in which case
it's still out of your control. Or it's possible that it has do
something with the way the domain server puts your
Geocities page in an invisible frame, in which case it's also out of
your control.

Or I could be wrong.

The good news, though, is that most people probably won't see the
error box. It shows up only when IE6 is set to show JavaScript
errors, and I'd bet that most people don't have IE6 configured that
way.

Good luck, and congratulations!
