Was the Embargo Act of 1807 constitutional? Was it actually "regulating trade" as the constitution allows, or did it go too far in stopping commerce completely (and was unconstitutional)? Please provide a summary of the issues involved. More importantly, please provide books and sites that have more information. I couldn't find anything on the internet (except on Yahho answers: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahf8DziXUkRwnXnexJa8KOXsy6IX?qid=1006012807391) and a Google Book search didn't help so much either. I only found one book, The Constitutional Thought of Thomas Jefferson (by David N. Mayer) which had a page on the subject, but I need a lot more sources. Primary Sources that are on this topic would be excellent. | |
