Hello nikononly-ga,
I sympathize with you about the difficulty of finding a
Hungarian-speaking doctor for your mother. I speak Hungarian and I
thought it might be easy to browse through the yellow page listings of
doctors to see if I could spot a Hungarian-looking name. This approach
was not productive but I think I?ve come up with some resources that
should help you find someone who can help interpret for your mother
even if you can?t find a Hungarian-speaking professional.
There is a significant Hungarian community in Michigan and I?ve
located some Hungarian organizations that might be able to help. They
might have the appropriate contacts in their membership or they might
be able to refer you to other resources. I?m providing you with a
variety of contacts in the hope that they will be able to connect you
with someone who can help your mother.
Wishing you well.

MICHIGAN TRANSLATOR RESOURCE LIST 11/16/04
(This document lists two organizations that handle Hungarian
translations. I suggest that you call them and ask if they can
recommend a Hungarian-speaking doctor and if not, can they suggest
community organizations who might be able to help. As a last resort,
they might be able to find an interpreter who could assist your mother
at her doctor?s visits.)

Interpreters and Translation Issues
Interpreters (at Branch Office)
Finding an Interpreter
If you have difficulty speaking or reading English, or have a hearing
problem, branch office personnel can provide a list of approved
interpreters. Interpreters provide spoken or Ameslan (sign language)
assistance and may interpret the driver's license test to branch
office customers. If necessary, branch office personnel can assist in
arranging for an interpreter for customers who use sign language.
