Hi Mdoane,
I found a very good explanation of the cause of squeaky shoes for you.
Basically, the squeak is caused by a dearth of glue where two of a
shoe's materials are joined. The improperly glued pieces then rub
together when you walk, causing the annoying squeak.
According to Nick Valenti of B. Nelson Shoe Corp. in New York, you can
usually feel a vibration coming from the squeaky part of the shoe. If
that doesn't help you locate the source of the noise, you're going to
have to go to a quiet place and get a friend to get down close to the
shoes while you walk in them to try to identify the location from
which the squeak originates. If the location is accessible, you can
apply contact cement to both sides of material, put them back
together, and be sure everything is holding.
Unfortunately, some shoe areas may be much harder to get to than
others, which would necessitate the use of a professional shoe repair
person, and may cost a good bit of change.
Since shoe squeaks are usually the result of a manufacturing defect
and usually show up early on, you may want to consider returning the
shoes to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement pair.
I would like to thank Mr. Valenti, not only for the excellent
information I've paraphrased above, but also for a wealth of
well-written information about a variety of other shoe fitting and
repair topics. An index to this information is found at:
