When will the federal mileage reimbursement rate go up to reflect the
soaring gas prices in 2006? I have checked with my state OFM in WA
state, and they said they check the IRS site every day and will change
their rates as son as the feds do, but nothing yet!

The Feds raised it to... I think it is now $.485 per mile. That seems
even a little high for the average car. Perhaps it's right for them
to ignore SUV drivers and only reimburse people for driving a
reasonable automobile.
