I am trying to locate my Dad's will, I don't know the attorney's name
that prepared it. He lived in Oregon, I have tried calling attorney's
from the phone book. I have a safe deposit key also, but no bank.
Nothing on his bank statments shows a check written to an attorney and
his bank does not have a safe dposit box for him. Help. Kathleen

You should call the Court Clerk's Office in the county in which your
father lived and also possibly the Court Clerk's Office in the county
in which he died. The will would most likley have been filed with the
Clerk in one of those two places.

Please let me know if this results in locating the will.

I've heard of a similar case here in the UK where a man definitely
made a will but, after he died, it could not be found.

Consequently, his estate was administered in accordance with the rules
of intestacy to the disadvantage of one of his children relative to
the other for whom he had already provided during his lifetime.

I guess this may be a similar problem to yours.

Maybe he left it in the safe deposit box?

Certainly a trawl of the local banks and attorneys is a must but
rather than phoning, I would suggest that you write to them, giving
full details and (sort of) implying that you know that it was them.

I hope that the implications of not finding the will are not too
disastrous for you.

Good luck!

Bryan
