I remember having searched the whole disk space for a word and found
it. (using Norton utilities or something else). This was for a disk
formatted in FAT System 16. I do not remember what I did. Does anybody
know how this is done for Systen16? Can this also be done for
system32?

This kind of search is not a function of the file system, it's a
function of some application program you run. Your operating system
manufacturer may have provide such a program, or I may be able to
recommend one, or both. What operating system are you running? Also,
do you really care about reconstructing whatever you formerly did on
the FAT16 file system, or are you mainly interesting in searching the
file system you have now?

I have since undeleted the directory I was after and I no longer have
a need to look for words in the deleted file I therefore cancel this
question
