Convert comma separated data into cells in Excel xls spreadsheet. See
example below.

This is an operation I have done in the past but cannot do now. Using
Excel 2004 for Mac. To duplicate my problem do the following:

Goto to Yahoo finance. Type in AAPL (Apple stock symbol)
Select Historical Data
Select data period...use short period like Jan 1 2006 to May 3 2006
Scroll to the bottom and select info that lets you see data as comma
separated spreadsheet.

Now...somehow get this in to an Excel .xls workbook.

Are you able to save the comma-delimited data as a file on your local system?

If so, it should be a relatively easy matter to open it up as an Excel spreadsheet.

Pete,

I downloaded the AAPL data with no problem...it opens right up in Excel.

The part of your question I'm having a hard time understanding is this:

>>Scroll to the bottom and select info that lets you see data as comma
separated spreadsheet...<<

When I access historical stock data at Yahoo Finance, at the bottom of
the table is a simple hypertext link that says "Download To
Spreadsheet".

Once I click on that, everything works just at it should. Are you
seeing the same link?

P.S. Here's what the AAPL data looks like off of the Excel
spreadsheet (though it may not format properly here):

Save the file with a csv extension and excel will be able to open it.

Otherwise, in Excel go to Data from the menu and go from "text to columns"

Change the Commas to Tabs ( #09 or &h09 )

The CSV protocol is fiendishly complicated

Which language version do you work with? In the german version, for
example, the meaning of comma and decimal point are reversed. You can
change this in the international part of the options.

Simply take the comma delimited file open it and paste it into an
excel sheet. Then highlight the column you just pasted and go to Data
Text To Columns, choose delimited, click next, choose delimited
"other" and type ',' into it. You should see below showing you the
separation. Click next and finish and the comma delimitation should be
in a few columns. If this does not work let me know. Hope it helps.
