In October of 1999, I read an article in Wired Magazine about a movie that was coming out entitled, "For The Cause." It was a great article, and for some reason the article always stuck with me though I never saw that the movie had come out. I guess I was just grasped by the guy's enthusiasm. Through the magic of imdb, I was able to find out that the movie was eventually released direct-to-dvd under the title "Final Encounter" and is a bit of a stinker, but I've ordered the DVD regardless to see how it all turned out. The problem is that I don't _believe_ it comes with the original 6 minute film that the brothers used to get hired by Miramax, and that's the segment that I really want to see. (It may, and if you can find proof it does then I'll mark this closed and myself impatient ;-) ) So, then, my question is, is there anywhere I can find the original film made by the brothers in the dark of night as they snuck into Sony Pictures? You can find the original article online at http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/7.10/douglas.html . This article mentions the 6 minute short I am referring to which dazzled all the Hollywood execs from approximately page 3.5 to 4.5 If you can tell me what David Douglas is up to now, I'd also throw in a tip, because he dropped off of IMDB's radar after this film and I think it's just a shame that someone so passionate didn't end up "making it," regardless of how his film may have turned out in the end. The feature-length film's IMDB page is available at http://imdb.com/title/tt0113092/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9Zm9yIHRoZSBjYXVzZXxmdD0xfG14PTIwfGxtPTUwMHxjbz0xfGh0bWw9MXxubT0x;fc=1;ft=20;fm=1 This is my first time using Google Answers, so please let me know if I have made any sort of error or set the price too low. |

IMDB does list a subsequent film he directed for Nu Image: Submarine (2002), a direct-to-video feature that he directed (but didn't write). This was released on the overseas market under the title USS Majesty: Alerta Nuclear. Some of it may also have been filmed in Bulgaria, since I ran across an on-line cv posted by a graphics/tech person who lists working with a David Douglas on a project in early 2002. He was also back to digital matte painting with Blur Studio, when they did work for Soulkeeper (2001). A couple pieces of marginal trivia. For the most part, For the Cause was marketed under that original name overseas (and as Warhammer in Germany), where it was released on video before it came out here. However, I ran across one site listing it under the strange title of Future Troopers (see link below). And there is one copy of the original script from 1998 listed in World Cat; it resides at Northwestern University Library in Chicago. http://www.boxman.se/splash/browse.do;jsessionid=a8KiWzT0JzN6cgrviL?show=movie&id=15754 |
