I am a 21 year old traveling with my 22 year old friend. I don't have
a driver's lisence and she doesn't have a credit card so we have been
told by every rental car company we've tried that we may not to rent a
car. Could you please tell me the best way to get around from Waianae
to Honalulu and other areas around the isand? I'm open to public
transportation however, I'm nervous about trying to figure out a
system out of state and I know taxis will get expensive. Any ideas
would be helpful.

I rented a car for my first Hawaii vacation and hated the hassle of
parking and not knowing exactly where I was going. On the second trip,
I took the bus to most places.

It was very easy, the drivers were very helpful.

On my next trip, I'll be taking the bus to sightsee in the daytime,
and taking a taxi to go to clubs/shows at night.

If this answers your question, let me know.

Hello twacorbies-ga,

I?ve visited Oahu several times and I agree with Cynthia that it?s
quite easy to get around without having a car. Below I?ve listed the
links for all modes of public transportation in Oahu along with some
articles that discuss how and when to use them. I?ve also included
some links on Waianae since you specifically mentioned getting there
from Honolulu.

I wish you and your friend a wonderful trip.

WAIANAE COAST -- LEEWARD OAHU
=============================

http://oahu.aloha-hawaii.com/hawaii/leeward+oahu/
OAHU'S LEEWARD COAST

It?s only 25 miles from from Waikiki to Oahu?s Leeward Coast, but they
may as well be in another universe. Located on the coastal side of the
Waianae Mountain Range, the Leeward Coast is everything Waikiki is
not: untamed and wide open.

Geologists conclude the Waianae mountains were formed about three
million years ago. Its tallest peak, Mount Kaala, rises 4,017 feet
from the ocean, making it the highest point on the island.

Leeward Oahu includes the communities of Waipahu, Ewa and Nanakuli to
the coast of Maili, Waianae and Makaha. The climate is generally dry
and sunny, and the coastline offers pristine white sand beaches that
are prime spots for swimming, snorkeling and fishing. The Leeward
beaches also provide the best seat in the house for the island?s most
spectacular free show: sunset.

West Shore Oahu (Leeward side)
The leeward (Waianae) coast of Oahu, customarily dismissed as ?arid,?
is only so by Hawaiian standards. It certainly has its share of fine
beaches, the best being Makaha beach park (served by TheBus #51).
