1930's Deco rosewood lacquered cocktail table-mirror-like finish-have
been using lemmon oil to polish- is this ok? Noticed some superficial
scratches that appear to be in the wax or polish, not in the wood
itself--what should I be doing? Have been getting advice from
others-Johnson wax it; wash off with dish detergent 1 cap to 1 gallon
then use mineral spirits to clean off excess wax/polish- and then wax
with ball of wax in a smooth wool sock in circular movements--I'm not
sure what to do at this point-can someone help? |

Lacquered rosewood is commonly used in fine classical guitars, for
the backing. You may want to consider the use of a good guitar polish
such as Cory All-Brite Wood Polish, found here:

Answer to sublime1-ga--I was wondering about cleaning off old build
-up of lemon oil first, what would you suggest to do this--also the
site you reccommneded has all liquid polish-which I don't think work
well with this hi lacquered (mirror-like) table
liquids polishes (lemon oil) just don't absorb, was thinking maybe a
wax after I cleaned it up

Both of these responses, to a question similar to yours, on
Experts.About.com, seem to confirm that mineral spirits are
the way to go for removing lemon oil buildup, and offer further
suggestions for finishing, from tung oil to a fresh coat of
lacquer:
